Five Kenya Defence Force soldiers were on Wednesday killed after their vehicle ran over an IED in Bodhei area of Boni Forest, Lamu County.
Six others have been critically injured in the unfortunate incident. Eye-witnesses said the vehicle was moving from Baragoni towards Bodhei and was extensively damaged in the Wednesday morning incident. The Defence Department had promised to issue a statement at the time of publishing this story.

The incident happened in the forest that has been experiencing attacks in the recent past perpetuated by Al-Shabaab militants.
Meanwhile the terror group has not claimed responsibility, but the nature of attack bears all hallmarks of the militants, given the previous attacks have similar features.
