With a desire to help create jobs in rural areas and make unique, high quality products for retail, Ann McCreathe started her own fashion house dubbed Kikoromeo which means ‘Adam’s Apple’ in Kiswahili.
Recognizing the potential in African-inspired contemporary fashion she began her business of collecting pieces done by community artisans and women’s groups and selling them through her own garage. Now 18 years down the line she is one of the leading market holders and a household name in the fashion industry.
Let’s talk about wins, Ann has a number of accolades to boast including Top 100 Women Influencing Africa, she was also a finalist in the Ethical Fashion Forum Source Awards 2012 for “Outstanding Contribution to Sustainable Fashion.”
And it’s with reason.
When you speak Kikoromeo, you think about high end fashion, classy African prints with edgy accessories, they are a work of art. No wonder Kenya’s A list have them on speed dial.
