Mama Sarah said the university is a landmark project in honour of her grandson and former first black US President Barack Obama.
She said she has acquired more than 50 acres for the project.
She spoke at her Kogelo-Nyang’oma rural home during a visit by US-based professor Michael Muiga, the founder of Barack Obama University.
In April, President Kenyatta recognised Mama Sarah by awarding her the Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (EBS) for her dedicated service to the poor.
Mama Sarah is the founder of the Mama Sarah Obama Foundation (MSOF) a charitable organisation, dedicated in helping orphans and poor families feed and educate their children.
Mama Sarah has used her own resources and relentlessly worked with community leaders to meet the dire needs of these orphans.
Due to her blood relations with the immediate former US President Barack Obama, her phenomenal work has come to light well beyond the boundaries of Kogelo village.
The Foundation’s mission is to improve the education and welfare of disadvantaged children through forging partnership and linkages with both local leaders, national and international partners.
The Foundation also constructed Early Childhood Development Centres, rehabilitation of Primary and secondary Schools, Construction of Medical Centres, Development of a Vocational Centre and Establishment of the Mama Sarah Scholarship Fund.
