Tens of hundreds of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) on Wednesday filled the Nairobi city streets for the second day to push the government to honor its earlier promise to resettle them.

The IDPs are demanding the money the government pledged to them last year.

The IDPs who have been camping outside parliament for the second day now, are pushing for a pie in the Sh6 billion earlier awarded to them by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

They have argued that the Sh6 billion that had been disbursed to resettle them, have not reached them, and that they are still suffering.

“The President said Sh6 billion had been allocated to resettle integrated IDPs. It has been two years since that money was disbursed but we have not received that money yet,” one of the representatives told the press.

The IDPs further expressed fears that Sh4 billion out of the Sh6 billion they were promised was missing.

They asked the President to intervene to ensure the Sh6 billion is intact.

The families said they would not leave the city until the President ensures that money promised for their resettlement is released.

“We have come here three times asking for our money. But when whenever we come, we are taken in a circle. Yesterday we were roughed up because of converging to ask for our money. We will not leave here until the President tells us that we are getting our money,” they said.

The IDPs were those who moved to live with relatives and friends after the 2007/8 Post Election Violence in Kenya.

In November last year, over 100 families tented camp outside parliament buildings in solidarity with those who were allegedly  abandoned in the previous repatriation cohort.

There is no government official who has responded to the claims yet.
