Outgoing Nairobi Women Representative Rachel Shebesh on Wednesday night conceded defeat after preliminary results showed that her arch rival Esther Passaris was leading with a huge margin.
The results indicated that Passaris had garnered 53 percent of the votes while Shebesh was trailing having received 43 percent.
During a press conference, Ms Shebesh extended her support to Passaris who vied on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party ticket.
The former Women Rep promised Passaris that she will ensure that there was smooth transition.
“IIwant to congratulate Esther Passaris on winning the Nairobi women rep seat. I wilL support Passaris, I will ensure that there will be a smooth transition from me to her,” she said.
Shebesh added that though it was difficult to concede defeat it was imperative for the sake of the country.
She also urged the National Super Alliance (NASA) to accept the results.
"To the NASA principlals, it is hard for anyone to concede defeat but, Kenya is more important than all of us," she said.
NASA flag bearer has disputed the results streaming in on the IEBC website highlighting that they are not legal as they are not accompanied by form 34A as stipulated in the constitution.
