President Uhuru Kenyatta has been awarded the Mandela Peace Prize by Paris-based Mandela Institute.
President Kenyatta was given the democracy prize for demonstrating a true spirit of democracy when he accepted the Supreme Court to annul his August 8 victory.
Tanzanian President John Pombe Magufuli was awarded the overall winner of the Mandela Peace Prize.
The institute noted Magufuli's work in promoting peace and social harmony in his country, as the main reason they granted him the award.
The awards were, however, controversial as some African leaders with dubious public records were also rewarded.
Burundian President Pierre Nkurunziza was awarded the Mandela Courage Prize despite the country's poor human rights record.
The Supreme Court of Kenya was also lauded for its historic ruling that made it the first African court to annul a presidential election.
