I Am Sorry – CS Balala apologises after “Go To Hell” outburst

Balala's outburst had angered Kenyans

Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala has made a U-Turn and apologised a day after his angry outburst during a press conference where he told those calling for his sacking to "Go to Hell".

The CS claimed he had gotten emotional after being let down by his staff after the death of 11 rhinos during the botched translocation at Tsavo East National Park.

The National Assembly’s Environment and Natural Resources Committee had summoned Balala to explain how the 11 rhinos died at Tsavo East National Park.

"I have done my best. As a human being I apologise. I have emotions and i reacted," Balala told the MPs.

Balala at the same time said he was sorry for dragging the name of President Uhuru Kenyatta during his angry outburst on live television that infuriated Kenyans.

“In my leadership, I decided that I am going to be right and not nice. On the issue of rhinos, I am going to stand with what is right. Nobody has appointed me; it is President Uhuru Kenyatta who appointed me, so they can go to hell. I can tell them that,” a visibly angry Balala had said.

Kenyans anger

Many Kenyans took to social media under the hashtag #Balalawajibika where they called for his removal as CS terming him as arrogant.

His apology came barely hours after yet another rhino died in Lake Nakuru National Park at the hands of suspected poachers.

KWS Senior Warden Catherine Wambani confirmed the latest rhino death on Tuesday saying that the poachers escaped with two horns leaving the carcass behind.
