A group of students believed to be from the University of Nairobi on Saturday morning stormed Parklands Police Station to demand the release of Embakasi MP Babu Owino.
The irate youth barricaded a section of the road leading to Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD).
Emerging reports indicates that the student who are from the Parklands School of Law declared that they will hold demonstrations until Babu is released.
The chairman of the Student Organisation of Nairobi University (SONU), Jamal Birkan stated: “Babu must be released or we release on them. Babu Owino is not wrong and the Government is trying to test what we can do. From today till Friday…till the day Babu will be released, we will release on them with no mercy”.
Mr. Owino posted on social media thanking the students for the loyal act.
“I would love to thank all patriots who have just stormed Parklands Police Station to demand my release. Mr. Kamwende arrested me on a Friday with a clear intention of having me behind bars for the whole weekend before trial on Monday. We will emerge stronger than before!” he said.
According to ODM Communication Director, Phillip Etale, NASA leader Raila Odinga is expected at the police station.
The Embakasi lawmaker was arrested on Friday afternoon by flying squad officers outside Parliament building.
He was apprehended questioning over claims of assault on security guards in Westlands, Nairobi.
