Court gives Uhuru major win in fight against corruption

The High Court on Wednesday handed President Uhuru Kenyatta a major win after it lifted a ban on his earlier directive requiring fresh vetting of all senior procurement officers.

Judge Onesmus Makau of the Labour and Employment Relations ruled in favour of the government in the case filed by activist Okiya Omtatah.

Omtatah had argued that the President's directive was done without public participation and was likely to trample on the rights of government officials.

Solicitor General Ken Ogeto responded by telling the court that the government was committed to ensuring the vetting would be conducted within the Constitution and the law.

The The Head of State had directed that lie detectors would be used during the vetting of procurement and accounting officers in the ongoing war on graft.

“All heads of procurement and accounts in government ministries, departments, agencies and parastatals will undergo fresh vetting including polygraph testing to determine their integrity and suitability,”  Kenyatta stated.
