British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) Africa journalist Maya Hayakawa has disclosed that she is a teenage mother.

In post seen by Pulselive.co.ke Maya said she got pregnant at the age of 15 and gave birth to her son just two weeks after her 16th birthday.

She went on to say that becoming a mother at 16 changed the direction of her entire life and she is grateful that she found a best friend in her son.

The BBC Africa presenter also admitted that there are challenges that come with motherhood, but she has no regrets at all.

I got pregnant at 15, and gave birth just 2 weeks after my 16th birthday, and it changed the course of my entire life. I love that I gained my best friend. There may be challenges in motherhood, but no regrets. I think the girls in #TheSheWord feel the same,” wrote Ms Hayakawa.

The screen siren opened up on this side of her life as they discussed motherhood on BBC’s the She Word show.

Before joining the BBC, Maya worked as a business news anchor at Mediamax’s K24 TV where she had worked for three years.

Today marks my last day here at K24Tv. This is a picture taken when I first joined in 2015. The last 3 years have been the best of my life.
