The happiness came a day after his 34th birthday as he came off the bench to score his first goal in Africa since signing a two-year deal with the Nairobi outfit last month.
But there was also sadness as he netted 21 years after his now deceased brother Steve also scored against the Cairo club in the CAF Cup, forerunner to the Confederation Cup.
Oliech, a Kenyan football icon who scored 34 goals in 72 appearances before retiring from the national team three years ago, netted on 90 minutes to complete the scoring.
"I dedicate this goal to my late brother," Oliech said after the Group D victory at Kasarani Stadium in the African equivalent of the UEFA Europa League.
"I knew I would come on and score and I wanted to celebrate in the exact same way he (my brother) did.
"It is not about me but my team and I am pleased with the result. This is behind us now and we (must) focus on the next game (against Petro Atletico in Angola on February 13)."
Highly excitable Turkey-born Gor coach Hassan Oktay said the triumph over one of the giants of African football did not surprise him.
"I was expecting this win because we did some good homework on Zamalek and watched their game against Pyramids in the Egyptian league.
"We knew the way they play and, tactically, we were ready for them. I knew we could get something."
'Lapses of concentration'
Zamalek coach and former Tottenham Hotspur manager Christian Gross was not overly despondent after the loss as his club seek a first CAF title since lifting the 2003 Super Cup.
"This is just one group-stage game. We had the advantage of an early goal but ended up conceding because of lapses of concentration in defence."
Jacques Tuyisenge scored twice and African debutant Nicholas Kipkirui once for Gor in a thriller while Ibrahim Hassan gave Egyptians Zamalek an early lead and levelled just before half-time.
Gor, whose 1987 victory in the now defunct African Cup Winners Cup is the only CAF success by a Kenyan club, top the section on goal difference from NA Hussein Dey of Algeria.
The Algiers club edged Angolan visitors Petro Atletico 2-1, taking a two-goal lead through Mohamed Amine Tougai and Walid Allati before Vladimiro 'Va' Felix reduced arrears.
Trophy-holders Raja Casablanca surrendered an early second-half lead given to them by Mouhcine Iajour as they drew 1-1 at fellow Moroccans Hassania Agadir in Group A.
In the same section, Mohamed Aziz snatched an 89th-minute equaliser for the third Moroccan contenders, Renaissance Berkane, to force a draw 1-1 at AS Otoho Oyo in Congo Brazzaville.
Zesco United beat Nkana 2-0 in a Zambian derby in Ndola to lead Group C on goal difference from Al Hilal of Sudan, who pipped Asante Kotoko of Ghana 1-0 in Omdurman.
Nigerian Godwin Aguda scored a chart-topping sixth goal in the CAF campaign after just 72 seconds to set up Enugu Rangers for a 2-0 home win over minnows Salitas from Burkina Faso.
The other Group B match was decided by a solitary goal with record three-time Confederation Cup trophy-holders CS Sfaxien winning 1-0 away to fellow Tunisians Etoile Sahel.
