A Jubilee Party legislator now wants the Nasa presidential candidate Raila Odinga be banned from fleeing for safety, just in case he causes chaos.

Kimilili Constituency MP Didmus Barasa has called on the national government to withhold Mr Odinga’s travel passports ahead of the repeat presidential poll tentatively slated for October 17.

Speaking to the press, Mr Barasa argued that Raila was highly likely to cause chaos then flee the country and reiterated that he would sponsor a Bill in Parliament to ensure that Raila surrendered his passport before the election.

The Opposition is scared and has resorted to inciting their supporters to take to the streets and cause mayhem,” Mr Barasa said.

He added: “I will go to Parliament to ensure that Raila surrenders his passport as he will cause chaos and flee. We want him here.”

He has argued that the opposition is likely to cause mayhem in the upcoming elections, thus the need to gag Mr Odinga’s movements.

"The Opposition is likely to cause trouble should their demands to have the election postponed fail," he said.

Mass action

Earlier, Nasa key strategist and Economist David Ndii claimed that the Opposition was ready to hold mass action should the repeat polls be marred by irregularities. He added that the mere bungling of the election process would mean that liberation could only be possible though a bullet if the ballot failed.

Barasa said his Bill would ensure that NASA leaders were present to witness first-hand the state of the country should they call for mass action.

The MP accused Opposition leaders of a plot to use violence to get into office.

"They have been engaging in violence to intimidate their rivals and that should not be the case in the new dispensation," he said.

He added: “We should have a peaceful election. There is no need for people to cause violence in order to attain political office. This is why I want Raila's passport detained.”

Meanwhile, there was no implication of the commissioner of staff of the IEBC to have violated the law in the conduct of the previous elections.
