Pulse Cares, a community outreach initiative by Pulse, is pleased to partner with Cup Of Uji to make a difference for school children.
Cup Of Uji is a nonprofit initiative founded by Francis Otieno Amonde in 2011 after he witnessed primary school children in Oyugis, Homa Bay County, attending classes while hungry.
So far, Cup Of Uji’s school feeding programme has supported school-going children in eight counties and over 25 public primary schools and the mission does not stop there.
The goal is to have reached 100,000 underprivileged kids across the country by the end of 2025, providing them with a daily cup of nutritious uji [porridge].
And with Pulse Cares on board, it hopes to connect with more well-wishers who can help.
Cup Of Uji depends on the generosity of those who believe in the mission, the initiative is able to carefully manage these funds to create a lasting impact not only for school children but also the larger community.
School Feeding Program
There are several programs that Cup Of Uji currently sponsors and the feeding program is essentially the main goal of the nonprofit.
This program makes sure that school children do not have to battle hunger while trying to study.
Since breakfast is an important way to start the day, a warm, nutritious cup of porridge is provided to help children kick off their morning before lessons begin.
Aside from that, they also receive a balanced lunch to keep their energy and concentration levels up throughout the afternoon.
Pulse Cares hopes to make sure this continues as it is a supportive system designed to give every child a fair shot at a brighter future.
Donating to this program brings Cup Of Uji one step closer to making sure that thousands if not millions of children can enjoy healthy meals every single day.
How you can support and donate
A cup of fortified porridge costs KSh. 15 per child per day (KSh.300 per child per month and KSh 2,700 per child per year).
For lunch of different menus (rice and high iron beans, cabbages and whole grain ugali, and githeri) the costs are: KSh 40 per child per day (KSh. 800 per child per month and KSh 7,200 per child per year).
You can choose to do fundraising for either breakfast or lunch or both though breakfast would be more preferred.
By doing so, you are not only feeding the children but also playing a major role in shaping their future. Children can fully focus on learning without worrying about what to eat.
