During the recent Marvel press junket, Ruffalo told Yahoo! that two possible endings were shot for his character, including one which would have seen Banner disintegrate into dust along with half of all life in the universe-and even Ruffalo wasnt sure if he had survived until he saw the final edit in the theater.
I didnt know until I saw the movie, he said. For one take, I did disappear, and then the other one I didnt.
Its possible that the Russo brothers decided to film alternate endings for Ruffalos character because he has a reputation, along with Spider-Man actor Tom Holland, for accidentally leaking spoilers to the fans. And theyre not above such misdirection when it comes to the Hulk, who was clearly shown fighting in Wakanda in the trailer for Infinity War, only to remain out of action after the opening titles of the actual film.
I was pretty sure it was gonna be me, Ruffalo added. Its like Survivor. Its like, whos gonna get kicked off the island? And I probably shouldve. Its like Project Runway for leakers.
However, its unlikely that the films writers would have actually pulled the trigger on dusting Banner, as the ending to Infinity War relied on evoking a certain kind of symmetry, killing off pretty much every hero except the original six Avengers; Iron Man, Captain America, Black Widow, Thor, Hawkeye, and Hulk himself.
The upcoming sequel, Avengers: Endgame, will focus on these core characters efforts to defeat Thanos with the help of newcomer Captain Marvel and the remaining survivors of The Snap. The only thing well say in that regard, Joe Russo said at the junket, is that theres a reason that the original six Avengers survived.
Avengers: Endgame will be released on April 26.
