In a new Instagram video, Dr. Pimple Popper aka dermatologist and TLC host Dr. Sandra Lee, MD tackles a mans red, oily nose, pushing out blackheads at every turn. This berry-like nose seriously looks like it's filled with seeds waiting to explode.
The patient featured in this video has rosacea , a skin condition that causes redness and visible blood vessels, often around the nose area. The condition sometimes produces small pus-filled bumps, and can cause increased oil production. In this patients case, that increased oil production has resulted in blackheads on his nose.
In the clip, Dr. Lee uses a comedone extractor to push down on the patients nose, forcing out the blackheads. The growths are sticky and stubborn, meaning Dr. Lee has to put some muscle into the extractions. Eventually, she's able to remove a good number of blackheads, actually decreasing the size of the man's nose.
A blackhead is a single pore filled with dead skin and oil, which forms a black head when exposed to air. The white gunk you see in this video is actually the same material as the blackhead cap, only this material hasnt been oxidized to create a black coloring.
