A tragic road accident along the busy Nakuru-Nairobi highway has claimed one life and left 30 others critically injured.
The accident happened at Kinungi where the bus that was ferrying passengers overturned on Sunday, 22 December.
St John Ambulance confirmed the accident, noting that its trained community first responders administered first aid to the survivors and helped in transferring them to hospital for further treatment and care.
Scores rushed to hospital
Residents also teamed up with rescue workers to aid the injured who were rushed to Naivasha Sub-County Referral Hospital.

A rescue team was immediately dispatched to the scene and worked with the police to control traffic and clear the road for operations to proceed along the busy road.

Investigations have been launched to establish the cause of the accident.
This comes in the backdrop of concerted efforts to tame road carnage with concerned agencies teaming up in a nationwide road safety campaign aimed at drivers, motorbike operators and motorists.
Major contributors to road accidents
The Traffic Department and the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) identified defective vehicles and reckless driving as major contributors to road accidents during the holiday season.

Teams of traffic police officers as well as those from NTSA have been deployed on major roads across the country to ensure smooth traffic flow and compliance with road safety regulations.
