Bar Hostess Empowerment Support Programme (BHEP) has announced that Nairobi sex workers lost Sh20 million during the election period.

Speaking to one of the local dailies, Director of BHEP Peninah Mwangi said that unlike June and July where the girls made a killing due to the cold season, the ten-day election break this August saw work for the night girls scarce and Sh20 million that they could have earned during the period was lost.

"Most sex workers had enjoyed fruitful times, especially in June and July being the cold months when clients look for warmth...Business was not good for the girls for around ten days during the period, since there was minimal movement and some of them live away from the city center where clients flock. In fact, it is regrettable that during the period, more than Sh20 million that they would have earned was lost, " she said.

Prostitution is one of the oldest professions in the world and sex workers are said to make millions a month as it is high paying.
