Detectives from the Child Protection Unit have launched a probe into allegations made by child acrobat Wendy Waeni against her former manager Joe Mwangi.
On Friday, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) stated that they will be looking into any criminal activities that may have happened to the child.
"DCI detectives from the child protection unit have today commenced investigations into this matter."
"Should any criminal culpability be found, appropriate legal action will be taken. We are grateful to all those who brought this to our attention," the DCI stated.

Wendy's mother speaks
During an interview on JKL on Wednesday, Wendy accused Joe – her former manager – of using and exploiting her talent for his own personal benefit.
Magdaline Syombua, the mother to Wendy said that despite the fact that her daughter is a star and has traveled outside the country to perform, they’ve never received a single penny from Joe Mwangi.
She recounted a meeting with Mr Mwangi and the deal they entered into in 2014 where he told the family that he (Joe) would work with Wendy for her talent to be discovered.
Uproar on social media
"He told me that he would arrange performances for Wendy and if her talent was discovered, he would know how to work with her from there. At one point I asked him, are there no proceeds from all these places you've been taking Wendy to perform at?"

"He responded that all this time, he was only promoting Wendy and giving her exposure which didn't translate into monetary gain," she explained.
The allegations have caused an uproar on social media with Kenyans urging relevant authorities to take action against Mr Mwangi.
