Former State House Spokesman Manoah Esipisu was on Thursday put on the spot over an incident in which President Uhuru Kenyatta’s twitter account unfollowed his deputy William Ruto.
Esipisu, who is also Kenya’s ambassadorial nominee to the UK, was appearing the parliamentary vetting him, when one of the MPs raised the matter.
South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro wanted the former PSCU head to explain how President Kenyatta’s twitter handle unfollowed Ruto earlier this year.
“He was responsible for the President's communication team. We saw the President's Twitter account unfollowing the deputy president. Was it an act of carelessness?” Osoro asked.
The Twitter incident attracted public attention as it had come after the famous handshake which was reported to have caused friction between Ruto’s camp and the President’s inner circle.
Another highlight of Esipisu’s vetting interview came when MPs asked him to explain why he had listed the President as one of his referees.
He responded by clarifying that his direct supervisor had been the President while he worked as State House spokesman.
