Flying Squad detectives on Friday arrested a Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officer Elias Shikuku who had been on the run for a year.

Police constable Shikuku is accused of stealing a Toyota Land Cruiser that had been detained at the department's yard in 2017.

According to a statement seen by Pulse Live, the officer was captured while on duty in Pokot South.

Shikuku allegedly changed the number plate of the stolen car and sold it off to an unsuspecting buyer.

"Detectives launched investigations after it was found missing and recovered it in Mombasa bearing a different number plate.

"The suspect who is a former member of the Flying Squad Unit is currently in lawful custody awaiting arraignment in court," the statement conveyed in part.

Matiang'i Concerned with DCI

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i last week raised concerns with the DCI after he read a report where a senior officer shot and killed a junior over a car.

Instructing IG Boinnet to investigate the matter, Dr Matiang'i also ordered for the arrest of the DCI official who also recorded a statement regarding the cold-blood murder.

The DCI also shared photos of the stolen vehicle that had been recovered.
