The NASA senate Parliamentary Group meeting on Tuesday overwhelmingly voted to remove Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula as their Minority Leader.
The Senators voted for Siaya Senator James Orengo to take over as the Senate Minority Leader.
The meeting was called after Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka suspended the removal of Wetangula from the powerful position, until his replacement was validly elected.
Lusaka noted that although Wetangula was validly removed as Minority Leader, the minutes of the meeting that elected his replacement was irregularly done by the ODM PG instead of the NASA PG that is recognised in the Standing Orders.
ODM has twenty senators out of the twenty seven who are elected on the NASA coalition.
Wiper has four senators, ANC two, while Ford Kenya had one.
The Standing orders require the removal of a Minority leader to be supported by at least two thirds of the members of a given party or coalition.
This means that ODM surpasses the two thirds requirement by two senators
