A Nairobi court on Friday denied bail to Starehe MP Charles Njagua, popularly known as Jaguar - in a case where the legislator is accused of inciting his constituents to attack foreign traders.

Jaguar's bail application, made on Thursday, was decided on Friday morning in favor of the state which had requested to told the MP for 14 extra days to complete investigations.

The magistrate agreed with the state prosecutor but rediced the number of days the MP would be held to three working days.

The city MP is expected to be arraigned in court next week on Wednesday - exactly a week since his arrest - when the magistrate will decide if he will qualify for bail.

Jaguar's remarks against a section of foreign traders sparked off a diplomatic row with neighboring country of Tanzania which summoned Kenya's high commissioner in their country to explain them.

The Kenyan government has since clarified that the remarks were not representative of the official position of the state.
