A section of Wiper Members of Parliament have asked Makueni Governor to step aside over what they termed as disrespecting party leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
Speaking at Parliament building the MPs led by Kitui Senator Enoch Wambua asked the governor to act accordingly or ship out.
Bringing friction in the party
The leaders accused governor Kibwana of bringing friction in the party after he was given a direct nomination yet many of them underwent the competitive process to win nominations.
Governor Kibwana was accused of having been sent by "his masters to rock the party from within".
"Professor Kibwana is battling a serious identity crisis especially his place in the politics of this country... if he thinks he's too popular we challenge him now to resign from the party and seek a fresh mandate from the people of Makueni," Senator Wambua stated.
His sentiments were echoed by Mwingi Central MP Gideon Mulyungi, who accused Professor Kibwana of distabilising Wiper Party.
Closed-door meeting
Their accusations come in the wake of a closed-door meeting between the three Ukambani governors that was held in Machakos County.
Governors Alfred Mutua (Machakos), Charity Ngilu (Kitui) and Kivutha Kibwana (Makueni) said Kambas needed a fresh leadership that focused on developing the region and negotiating strongly for national resources.
“Going forward, we'll speak with one voice to unite the community and negotiate directly with the national government on the issues affecting our region,” Dr Mutua, said.
Prof Kibwana gave a chronology of political events since his election in 2013, when Makueni County was on the brink of being dissolved after MCAs refused to pass his budgets, saying Dr Mutua and Mrs Ngilu are undergoing similar experiences.
He stated that they have decided to speak with one voice to chart a different political route.
