Governor Anne Waiguru and the County government of Kirinyaga have been sued by a CEC who was dismissed late June on accounts that he was incompetent.

Former Transport and Public Works CEC Peter Karugami has moved to the Labor and Employment Court in Nyeri seeking to quash the decision that saw him sent home by Ms Waiguru late June.

He has claimed in court papers that the governor forced him to sign his resignation documents, adding that the sacking was politically motived.

“I am apprehensive the governor will arbitrary and maliciously use the purported resignation letter to dismiss or terminate my employment,” Karugami notes in his memorandum of claims.

Ms Waiguru took the tough decision to send home Mr Karugami on June 28, citing incompetence and lack of commitment to his job.

“The suspension was too vague and does not raise any matter that would warrant summary actions without giving me a hearing,” the claimant has argued.

While the case remains pending for hearing on October 9, the dismissed CEC has pleaded with the court to put an injunction, restraining the governor from sacking him without due process and in the event he is sacked, be paid all salaries, allowances, and all payable general and special damages.
