Youâve been scoring goals on your weight loss journey, you know, looking forward to your daily dosage of healthy living until you notice that youâre not making any more progress.
Sucks right?
We call it the weight loss plateau. Usually metabolism is higher when you start losing weight and then it goes reducing with time until a point when it just doesnât help. Itâs normal. But this doesnât mean that you have reached your optimum weight. No, itâs all about strategising your feeding plans and exercise. The answer is to learn your metabolism level. Could you be doing something wrong? Read on
1. Eating less
When thinking about weight loss, itâs almost natural to try and skip meals. Donât do that. Skipping meals means that your body goes into fasting mode and starts storing more than its burning fat. It could also spike up your sugar levels hence slowing your metabolism. Instead, eat five times a day, small portions inclusive of healthy snacking.
2. Counting calories by mouth
Youâre told that counting calories is a great way to losing weight but rarely do does anyone counter in the quick bites of junk you they take in during the day. You know, like that cookie you stole from the office kitchen? These could really add on to the amounts of calories you take in a day and work against your efforts of weight loss. So instead of chasing blanks, write down everything you eat on a food journal.
3. Rabbit diets
Salads are great but munching on a large bowl of lettuce every day of your life wonât get you far on your weight loss journey. Instead, seek to maintain a healthy balanced diet for maximum body function. Remember the body reacts to deficiencies, what started out as a diet may end up being a serious health condition. Whatever you do, donât go below 1200 calories a day
4. Revamp your work out
A hundred planks a day will give burn off your belly real quick but it wonât get you those abs you so much desire. When your body gets used to a type of routine, then it becomes maintenance workout instead of weight loss. When it gets too easy, then it means you need to change for something a bit more challenging. Donât get in the comfort zone.
5. Cook and again I say, cook.
It would be a dream to try out all the fancy restaurants that serve tiny portions of food every day and while this would indeed set you up for healthier eating, it might not help that much in the weight loss sector. Youâre better off making your own meals. This way you can monitor what goes into your body, from the amount of sugar, oil and salt.
