7 expensive celebrity weddings that Kenyans will never forget
Today we look at some of the most unforgettable celebrity weddings in the country.
To start us off is:
1. This is Ess and Lonina Leteipan
The ‘Our 2 Cents’ host broke the internet following her dreamy proposal at Lake Michaelson Mount Kenya and about a year later she broke the internet once again with an alll-white wedding held at the exquisite Medina Palms in Watamu.
A wedding that was attended by close family friends and of course her celebrity pals like Patricia Kihoro, Joy Kendi, Miss Mandi, Susan Wong and Janet Mbugua.
A few days after her nuptials, the beautiful fashion blogger posted this, sharing her excitement about her big day. “Truly had the most beautiful wedding day a girl could ask for and was so happy with every single moment! But more so, that I now get to start this new journey with my love.”
2. Paul Mwaura and Evaline Momanyi
Paul Mwaura and Evaline Momanyi caught the country’s attention with their super-stunning non-traditional wedding last Friday.
The groom channelled the 1920’s vibe with a top hat from FlameKeepers Hat Club in Harlem NY and a Tuxedo suit with long swallow-like tails in the back made by Zeddy of Narok NYC. The outfit he wore was a popular choice for an evening out in the opera, over-the-top dinners, weddings and any situation that demanded that men dressed their finest back in the 20’s.
The bride also looked exceptional in a gorgeous soft peach mermaid dress which meshed beautifully with her bridesmaids who stunned in olive green dresses.
3. Joyce Omondi and Waihiga Mwaura
Just like their relationship, Waihiga and Joyce’s wedding came as a surprise to many but it was a pleasant surprise as the wedding was so beautiful.
The lovebirds were the talk of the town after they shared picturesque photos from their beautiful ceremony which was attended by close family, friends and colleagues at the sophisticated Sawela Lodge in Naivasha.
4. Kendi Mwiti and Jared Otieno
After their expensive dowry ceremony that included choppers and entourages, Jared Otieno pulled all the stops to make his wedding to 24-year-old Kendi Mwiti as memorable as possible.
From getting chauffeured to the wedding in a white horse carriage to 2 super pricey wedding dresses, the Otienos were certainly the talk of the town after photos of their wedding surfaced on social media.
The pics from the wedding held at Windsor Hotel, Lake View on a Saturday afternoon and the reception at Safari Park Hotel were very fairy-tale like.
5. Emmy Kosgei and Anslem Madubuko
Emmy Kosgei’s wedding was one of the most if not the most elaborate affairs of 2013. Emmy held not 1 but 3 weddings both in East and West Africa.
Their first wedding was a traditional wedding held at Emmy’s hometown in Kelelwa village, about a week later a lavish white wedding went down at Windsor Golf Club before the guests were treated a grand reception at Nairobi’s Safari Park Hotel. A week later another wedding ceremony went down at Lagos before a wedding thanksgiving at Revival Assembly in Nigeria. The whole affair was said to cost approximately 1 Billion Kshs.
6. Linda Muiru and Isaac Karanja
Pastor Pius Muiru’s software engineer daughter married the love of her life in a 9 Million Kshs wedding attended by former cabinet minister Henry Kosgei.
During an interview with Samantha Bridal’s Dream Wedding programme, the Karanjas disclosed that they had spent 9 Million Kshs on their Kenyan wedding and 3 Million for a small party in the U.S.A to show appreciation for their friends before their wedding.
The staggering cost can be attributed to a wedding dress that cost more than half a million, a chopper for the bride, an entourage that included stretch limos and Range Rovers and their Windsor Golf Club wedding venue
7. Sarah Hassan and Martin Dale
After four years of dating, Martin and Sarah wedded in a stunning wedding at Karura Forest before jetting back to Los Angeles.
The white and purple-themed invite-only wedding was attended by family, friends and the glitterati who included Abel Mutua, Silvia Njoki, Sheila Ndinda, the Kenyan Stylista and Anita Nderu.
