Former British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) boss Joseph Warungu has been appointed a Consulting Editor for Nation Media Group’s NTV.

Before his appointment, Mr Warungu worked as the Head of African News and Current Affairs at the BBC.

Announcing his appointment, NMG Group Editorial Director Mutuma Mathiu said that the Aga Khan owned media housed looks forward to Joseph Warungu elevating NTV with his experience and capabilities.

NTV has a fantastic team of broadcast journalists. What Joseph and his 20 years of international experience will do is to help them harness their skills and unleash the best TV journalism in the market. I am very excited at this development and I believe it is a turning point for the station,” said Mutuma Mathiu in a report by Daily Nation.

Speaking after the appointment, Warungu said that the appointment is an exciting opportunity for him to take up.

NTV is the home of news and current affairs and it’s time to reclaim that position of championing both social and political causes, just like the newspaper,” said Warungu.

His appointment comes a few days after the reported departure of NMG's Managing Director in-charge of Broadcast Division Alex Kobia.

Kobia who is currently serving notice joined NMG after the departure of Linus Kaikai who joined the Royal Media Services as Director of Strategy and Innovation.

NMG also announced the departure of The East African Managing Editor Ochieng Rapuro who is set to join The Standard in a senior capacity.
