General Defao: Why I bleached my skin

General Defao has finally addressed the elephant in the room...

Born Matumona Defao Lulendo, General Defao contributed a great deal to popularising and spreading Rumba music and has often been compared to Koffi Olomide and the late Papa Wemba.

Musicians whose music has been widely adored not only in their home country of Congo but the whole of Africa as well.

Aside from his music, Defao became the talk of the town for another thing, skin lightening. Fans were taken aback after General Defao went M.I.A for a while only to resurface looking very Casper-like. A look that was worsened by make-up which gave his face a shocking white cast due to camera flashback when he took a photo with Kenya’s own Kanda King.

After remaining mum and giving no explanations to his pasty look, he has finally broken his silence in regards to his new complexion.

Speaking to Metropolitan, Defao explained that his lighter look was not deliberate as it allegedly resulted from using a cream called Deramvote to treat a skin condition that has been plaguing him for a while now. Deramvote is a very potent topical medication used to treat skin conditions like Psoriasis, Eczema, Lichen Planus (an itchy body rash ) and Discoid lupus erythematosus (DLE), which is a chronic skin condition of sores caused by the immune system attacking the skin.

He also expressed his disappointment in people looking for scandals instead of focusing on his music.

“It is sad that there are people who are always looking for scandals in my personal life instead of focusing on my music,” he said before revealing that he has now relocated to Nairobi’s Lavington suburb where he is living large and working on his music.
