On May 14, 2019 Kaka Empire President King Kaka made history, becoming the first Kenyan artiste to grace the Cannes Film Festival in Cannes, France.
King, who is the official Brand Ambassador of Remy Martin joined other celebrities in celebrating the 72nd edition of the Cannes Film Festival.
Celebrities brought all the glitz and glamour to the Cannes which has a reputation for bringing out the extravagance in people.

“Our special guest @thekingkaka has landed in Cannes, ready to rock the Croisette with Rémy Martin!” reads an update from Remy Martin.
“A Kenyan in Cannes. History is made. First Kenyan musician to grace the red carpet in 72years. So there was heavy traffic to The Cannes Film Festival 2019 in France, we decided to Helicopter , tusichelewe,” reads an update from Kaka Empire.
The major red carpet at the Cannes had the likes of; Selena Gomez, Eva Longoria, Tilda Swinton, Elle Fanning, and many more.
The 72nd festival premiered some highly anticipated films including Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood, based on the murder of Sharon Tate, and a “hipster-zombie flick” starring Gomez, Adam Driver, and Swinton.
Rafiki at Cannes
In 2018, the crew of the banned gay film Rafiki were also the first Kenyan actors to receive a standing ovation at the Cannes Film Festival.
Film’s director Wanuri Kahiu, actresses Samantha Mugatsia and Sheila Munyiva held hands and giggled as top movie makers, directors rose up to honour their contribution in furthering the rights of LGBT community in Kenya.
Rafiki was the first Kenyan movie to be featured at the Cannes Film Festival.
