Before getting this plum position, he served as an MP from 1992 where he was twice re-elected before losing to newcomer David Simiyu Eseli of Ford-Kenya in 2007.
Apart from serving as an MP he also served as the Kenyan Minister of Trade and Industry from 2002 to 2007 and also chaired the Council of Ministers of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) and the African Trade Ministers' Council.

As they say, the apple does not fall far away from the tree and Mukhisa’s only daughter is quite the achiever just like daddy dearest.
She is currently a student at the famous British university, King's College London doing her Masters of medicine, health, and public policy.
She is also a graduate of Psychology at the University of Sussex and also studied at the International School of Kenya.
