36 dead, scores injured in horror crash

The New Year's eve crash is one of the worst this year.

The accident occurred 10 kilometres from the infamous Salgaa blackspot at 3 am involving a Nairobi-bound bus and a trailer. The bus belonging to Matunda Sacco is said to have been traveling from Busia and was speeding on the wrong lane causing it to ram into the trailer leaving over 30 people dead.

“We have 30 dead and two are from the truck, all the bodies have been removed from the wreckage and injured people were taken to the hospital.” Rift Valley Traffic Police Chief Zero Arome told Capital FM journalists earlier before the death toll rose to 36.

The injured were rushed to Molo Sub-County Hospital and the Nakuru Level Five Hospital while those who perished were taken to Nakuru County mortuary.
