A radio presenter has become an unlikely hero after helping deliver a baby by the roadside in Kano, Kisumu County.

Nzula Makosi Makite of Milele FM was coming from Chris Msando’s burial when she noticed a woman lying by the road looking distressed and so they stopped because she knew that the woman was in labour.

In a Facebook Live broadcast, Nzula is seen asking for a razor and a lesso to help deliver the baby.

Explaining the situation on Facebook Nzula wrote “On our way back to Nairobi from Msando's burial we helped a woman give birth by the roadside. My good friends Velona Atieno Collins Elvis and I witnessed this beautiful miracle. Indeed God is great. ”

She went on to explain that the woman was giving birth by the roadside because she had allegedly been turned away from Ahero Hospital. “Sadly this man and his wife allege to being turned away from Ahero Hospital and it's a miracle both mother and son survived. This is a challenge to the government. We need nurses back to work. We need healthcare centres that work 24/7 in our rural areas. We cannot risk maternal health. No woman in labour should be turned away from a hospital for any reason whatsoever.” She wrote.
