With the battle lines getting clearer and actors less blurry, 2022 is poised to become the most charged and entertaining political duel yet.
Thus for the rivals, every single day leading to Kenyatta's exit is precious time they can’t afford to waste. On one corner stands Deputy President William Ruto, while on the other side, sits the establishment whose many faces can’t be contained to one.
These wars preceding the main battle in 2022, pose the greatest threat to Kenyatta’s legacy and presidency.
Amid all the hyped development achieved by the Jubilee regime, Kenyatta is still in search for his Obamacare moment.
That’s why his agenda four remains his top priority over anyone inheriting him. His “handshake” with Odinga was more beneficial to him than the blank cheque the latter could cash in from it.
Since reaching out to Raila, it politically liberated him from Ruto’s yoke hold, while economically offered a breath of life to a struggling economy.
Socially, the Head of State could now reach out to the former Premier's strongholds thus enhancing his social image as president for all Kenyans.
This has negated the chances of Kenyatta being a lame duck president, for in his political liberation his legacy lies in, while in Ruto’s and the establishment dreams, his legacy lives in.
This masterstroke by Kenyatta showed he his a political genius. His patience and wisdom in bringing the opposition to government without giving much, while appointing his cabinet without overcompensating his deputy, is a sign of his political growth, a side that he rarely focuses on.
In essence, amid the many scandals that rocked his first term, Kenyatta is determined to put the lessons in use and avoid a similar blunder. Had he not fought this way, he would still be a president, but one on a leash.
From his first term, He also learnt that the media really had a stake in the country’s affairs and hence in the rumoured buying of the Nation enterprise lays his most hidden victory.
The ability to amplify his achievements and shape the narrative to his liking. All these moves ensure that his goals will be achieved at the pace and the sound he would like.
