Sharon Mundia’s labor story will make you laugh, cry and maybe scare you a bit

Her story will make you laugh, cry and maybe scare you a bit; all at the same time.

The award winning lifestyle blogger, through her Youtube channel, narrated her first time labor experience and there were some pretty special moments that a lot of mothers, soon to be mothers as well as those planning to be mothers can relate to.

Denial

The new mom confessed to being in denial after experiencing contractions during a dinner with her friends, way before she went into full term labor.

“They were coming in every five minutes and they were lasting 30 seconds. I’m like I’m still waiting for my 20 minute interval because that’s what my Lamaze teacher said so these aren’t contractions,” she said.

Even after she lost her mucus plug, This is Ess was still not convinced that she was actually going into labor.

The mucus plug is mucus that accumulates in the uterine cervix during ovulation and seals the cervix to block out any infections from the vagina to the cervix thus protecting the fetus. It is usually white-yellowish in color but when mixed with blood it has a pinkish appearance.

“It was the lightest pink so according to the color chat I created in my mind, that wasn’t the pink.”

Her mother – who believed that Sharon was in labor – advised her to call her doctor to let him know what was going on and even after her doctor clearly stated that she was in labor she still wasn’t budging.

“His exact words were ‘Sounds like you’re in labour, you need to rush to hospital”. And I just thought why does he think I’m in labour, obviously I still haven’t gone through my 20 minute interval, I just jumped to 5 minute interval so surely this can’t be labor.”

Poop after breaking her water

When her doctor broke her water, he discovered meconium (baby poop) in the water.

Fear

This is Ess has been open about her fears when it comes to giving birth but never thought they were as bad as pretending not to have a contraction.

While in the delivery room, This is Ess, revealed that the experience was so painful that she actually pretended that she wasn’t having a contraction so that she could sneak in a few minutes of sleep.

“At some point I was just like, you know what, I’m just going to be a boss and just fake my way maybe for like 20 minutes and just try and sleep. So I’m there like okay there’s a contraction but I’m not showing anyone anything.”

Baby Aria arrives

Unlike what most people may think, the mother of one didn’t ask to hold her baby immediately after delivery instead she made a rather interesting request.

“My reaction especially after finding out she was okay, the first thing I asked the doctor for was fifteen minutes just so I can nap. I was so exhausted.”

After all that though, This is Ess gave birth to her daughter Aria Nailantei Leteipan on May 8, 2017, having just pushed about  two to three times.

I remember holding her for the first time and repeating over and over ‘Oh my God’. I just didn’t have more words than ‘Oh my God’ but it was like my prayer. I just felt connected to God.”
