Evans Monari, who acted for President Kenyatta in the 2017 presidential petition at the Supreme Court, has been picked to act for the polls commission in a case filed at the High Court, seeking to stop IEBC CEO Ezra Chiloba and some commissioners from presiding the repeat presidential election.
The revelation was made after Monari spoke to a local online magazine speaking on viral photo that had him allegedly meeting IEBC commissioner Roselyne Akombe.
“I was in court this morning representing the IEBC, they are my clients. What is the problem” Monari stated.

Pulselive.co.ke contacted IEBC communications manager Andrew Limo to confirm Monari’s statement.
Limo, however, indicated that he was unaware of the matter but would confirm later. By the time of publishing this story, the IEBC had not responded.
The choice of the Oxford University- educated lawyer is likely to raise concerns of conflict of interest, particularly from the NASA coalition which has stated it has zero confidence in the polls commission.
Monari is one of the lawyers who have represented Kenyatta in critical legal cases including at the ICC.
The lawyer was also Jubilee's nominee in the committee that was tasked with interviewing and nomination of the current commissioners, including Chairman Wafula Chebukati.
