IEBC to chair talks between Uhuru and Raila

Uhuru and Raila to meet for showdown talks in the crucial meeting ahead of the repeat elections.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairman Wafula Chebukati is expected to chair the crucial meeting between the two leading presidential candidates to iron out the differences before the repeat polls.

"We look forward to meeting with the presidential candidates today. We hope to create a common understanding on the 26th October polls," IEBC said via Twitter on Tuesday.

Nasa has demanded IEBC CEO Ezra Chiloba’s sacking as well as those of 10 other officials before the elections as ordered by the Supreme Court.

The team has also demanded the sacking of returning officers implicated in what they allege was massive rigging, and the change of the Dubai-based Al-Ghurair as the printer of the presidential ballot papers.

Last week, a meeting between NASA and Jubilee collapsed.

NASA representatives walked out saying Jubilee was negotiating in bad faith after the introduction of new amendments to the electoral laws by the government side.

Last week, chairman Wafula Chebukati said the presidential hopefuls will attend the next meeting in person instead of sending "sideshow" representatives.

"Next time we want principals to come in person. We don't want their generals to cause sideshows here ahead of the election...we must meet sooner rather than later," he said.
