It could either be because of stress or maybe there’s a bun in the oven and despite the common dread of that time of the month, getting irregular periods isn’t a settling idea either.

Here are 6 common things you do that can affect your period.

1.Smoking

A study published by the Tobacco Control found that women who smoke are more likely to experience painful periods as compared to those that don’t.

Smoking changes the levels of estrogen, progesterone, testosterone which are involved in the development of PMS.

2.Alcohol

Excessive consumption of alcohol can cause an imbalance in hormone levels which can lead to irregular periods.

3.Too much exercise

It’s not bad to want to get into shape but excessive exercise can affect the menstrual cycle.

Too much exercise could cause your flow to either be too heavy or too light and this is due to the fact that the body requires a certain amount of body fat in order to ovulate.

4.Diet

Eating too much or too little can affect your menstrual cycle. Eating salty foods can also also make bloating worse  during that time of the month.

5.Medication

Birth control pills and anti-depressants can cause irregular periods. So before freaking out and thinking that you may be late, it is good to rule out every other option first.

6.Travelling

Travelling to places with different climate conditions changes hormone levels in the body which eventually can cause irregular periods.
