However, sometimes the thirst is too much such that you hardly feel quenched even after drinking a few glasses of water.

Some reasons for continuous thirst include:

1. Diabetes

One sneaky symptom of diabetes is thirst that can’t seem to be quenched. When you have diabetes, the body does not process enough insulin or does not use it properly. This leads to too much sugar in the body which in return increases the urge to pee. The more you pee, the more dehydrated you get and hence the increased thirst.

2. Too much salt

Water is not just dangerous for your blood pressure, it also makes you thirstier. Too much salt sucks water from the body cells and forces the body to conserve as much water as possible. Then, the water-deprived cells send a signal to the brain demanding for more water which leaves you thirsty.

3. Periods

Progesterone and estrogen levels during your periods can heighten your thirst and this is normal. The blood lost especially if you have a heavy flow could also be contributing to your thirst.

4. Xerostomia

This is a condition whereby the mouth feels dry and is often confused for thirst. It’s due to the dryness of the mucus membranes which may result from change in saliva composition or medications. When the glands do not produce enough saliva, it leads to a dry mouth.

5. Dehydration

Probably, you haven’t been fueling your body with enough water and it’s just crying out for more. Excessive sweating, vomiting, vigorous exercise and diarrhea could lead to dehydration.
