Congratulations are in order for the prestigious nomination.
The film, based on the tragic 2015 Mandera bus attack, is one of the nominees in the Best Live Action short film category at the 90 Oscar awards.
Passengers on a Nairobi bound bus from Mandera were attacked by the extremist group Al-Shabaab where Christian women were offered Islamic attire in order to disguise themselves as Muslims.
Three people – including Abdi Mohamud who was among those defying the demands from the militants to help identify the Christians in the group – lost their lives as a result of the bus attacks.
The film was nominated among nine other live action films. It was produced in 2016 as the graduation film for the Hamburg Media School master class program.
It was produced by Tobias Rosen from the Hamburg Media School and Bramwel Iro and Matrid Nyagah of Lightbox Africa. It was directed by Katja Benrath.
Congratulations to the entire Watu Wote team on their nomination.
