You then feel a sudden itch creeping in the middle of your scalp and you just have to itch.

You decide to give in and scratch your scalp  unaware of whoever may be watching. You look up when your done and find a handsome man staring at you in amazement - or maybe horror.

The embarrassment you feel at that moment cannot be put into words.

Dandruff could be caused by a different number of things. Either a dry scalp or common skin conditions like seborrheic dermatitis and eczema.

Whatever the cause of your dandruff, it can be embarrassing to be walking around with white flakes on your shoulders and an itchy scalp everywhere you go- whether you are a lady or a man.

Lucky for you, you do not have to dive too deep into your pockets to find a shampoo that will get rid of your dandruff. The answer can simply be found in your kitchen.

Have a look at some of these natural remedies for getting rid of dandruff.

Use baking soda

Not only is baking soda good for exfoliation but it also helps with clearing out dandruff by reducing the overactive fungi that causes dandruff.

Simply wet your hair and rub a handful of baking soda on your scalp. Rinse off with water. Your hair may get a bit dry but within a few weeks your scalp will start producing natural oils that will make your hair softer and flake free.

Coconut oil

Coconut oil is one of the best dandruff treatments out there.

Massage a bit of coconut oil into your scalp and let it sit for about an hour. Try do this in the evening before bed when you do not have pressing matters to attend to.

An added advantage for using coconut oil is that it smells pretty good.

Lemon

A lemon’s acidity helps to balance the pH of your scalp which helps with dealing with dandruff. Massage 2 tablespoons of lemon juice into your scalp and rinse with water. Stir one tablespoon of lemon juice into one cup of water and rinse your hair with it.

Repeat daily until your dandruff disappears.

Salt

Salt helps to scrub off dandruff flakes thanks to its coarse nature. Before you shampoo your hair, massage your scalp with salt to get rid of the flakes.

In the case of salt, you can use shampoo to rinse off your hair.

Garlic

Garlic contains antimicrobial properties that help in eliminating dandruff-causing bacteria.

Crush a few cloves of garlic and rub it into your scalp. You can try mix it with honey to help with the strong smell of garlic before applying it on your scalp.
