Governor Mutua sends home 400 county workers

Mutua ordered the workers not to access government premises.

Those sent home include all finance officers from both the county treasury headquarters as well as those seconded in other government departments in the county.

At the same time Mutua suspended all financial operations in order to allow a thorough, independent audit and suitability assessment of staff and financial operations of the county government.

According to the Nation, Mutua said that this was part of a comprehensive radical surgery he intended to undertake and which was informed by his interactions with residents during his campaigns.

“I have directed all financial officers – procurement, accountants, auditors, directors - to proceed on immediate leave from today until further notice. They are not to access government premises until they are recalled,” Mutua announced.

He promised residents that they will got value for their money and his administration will improve efficiency, remove cartels and enhance accountability and integrity in all levels of his government.

During his swearing in ceremony last month, the governor declared his focus for his second tenure would be be to create job opportunities, enhance access to water for the residents, improve County roads, electricity connectivity and quality education.
