The anti-IEBC demonstrations on Friday took a dramatic turn after members of the dreaded Nairobi Business Community Clashed with NASA supporters, forcing some of the leaders to flee for safety.

The NASA protesters were led by Nairobi Women representative Esther Passaris and her Kisumu counterpart Rosa Buyu.

The demonstrators had started their protests at Muindi Mbingu street and readied to head towards University Way where the IEBC headquarters are located.

The crowd was, however, forced to flee momentarily after spotting several packed buses with “Nairobi Business Community” banners.

The NASA MPS, fearing a violent confrontation, changed their route and headed towards City Hall  Way before ultimately making their way to Anniversary Towers.

Other NASA leaders including James Orengo and Johnstone Muthama later joined the protesters.

Nairobi Police Commander Japheth Koome had indicated that the security forces would not prevent anyone from protesting but cautioned demonstrators against disrupting lawful order.

“The police have not prevented anyone from picketing, our role is to enforce law and order,” Koome stated.

ODM Director of Communications Philip Etale, however complained that the Nairobi Business Community had been allowed to demonstrate even though NASA was the only entity given police license.
