Four people were shot dead by a gang of robbers in Kisauni, Mombasa, as they tried to help the owner of an Mpesa shop.

Police reports indicated that the four were killed on Sunday evening as they tried to intervene during a robbery incident at the shop in Majaoni area.

The gang of three had made gained access to one of the Mpesa outlets and began firing after being cornered by the residents.

Three other people received treatment at the Coast General Hospital after sustaining injuries during the incident where one of them was in a critical condition.

Police in further stated that there was no need for alarm by the residents as a manhunt had already been launched for the suspects.

Form four student shot dead

In August 2016, a high school student was killed during an Mpesa shop robbery at Mwihoko area in Githurai.

The form four student was shot dead after he went to witness the incident despite being warned not to by some of the residents who were aware of what was happening.

Residents of the area had complained of increased cases of robbery with violence and called for the police to take action.
