At least eight people have been confirmed dead in two separate accidents.

In one of the accidents that ocured at around 7 am on Sunday morning, four people died on the spot while six others were rushed to hospital after a matatu they were traveling in lost control and rolled several times along the Bomet-Narok at Katakala area.

Confirming the incident, area County Police Commander Adan Yunis stated that the accident occurred after the matatu which was ferrying 10 passengers collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle and with the driver losing control of the vehicle.

“It was around 7am this morning when the matatu belonging to Super Premium Sacco which was heading to Narok hit a vehicle being driven by a catholic priest,” Mr Yunis stated.

Those who perished on the spot were two women, a man and a boy.

The injured were rushed to Narok County Referral Hospital while the bodies of the deceased were also transferred to the facility’s mortuary.

In a separate accident, six people died in a road accident along Kibwezi-Kitui road.

Four people died on the spot while two others died while receiving treatment at Ikutha Sub-county Hospital where they had been rushed.

Medical superintendent Dr Paul Kibati confirmed that "We received 11 patients at the facility. Two have succumbed to injuries sustained in the accident and we are working on referring two patients who are in a critical condition to Kitui County Referral Hospital" .

The casualties were members of a Nairobi church who were travelling in a van to a dowry ceremony in Kitui.
