Catholic Bishop takes action after Ndindi Nyoro & Maina Kamanda Church tussle

Acting on church fight

MPs Ndindi Nyoro and Maina Kamanda clashed at a Church fundraiser

Murang’a Catholic Bishop James Maria Wainaina revealed that he has initiated a probe the scuffle that ensued at Gitui Catholic Church in Kiharu Constituency.

The bishop described the incident as unfortunate and sad, but at the same time said he had not been informed of the fundraiser which was attended by several Jubilee politicians.

It’s sad that such an incident happened in our church. I was not aware that there were guests invited to the church, only to hear through the media that chaos has erupted," Bishop Wainaina said.

Bishop's warning

"It is saddening and very unfortunate and I have initiated investigations before taking action,” he added.

Bishop Wainaina said cautioned politicians who visit churches and cause destruction, saying it is better not to attend church gatherings.

It’s very unfortunate that politicians can go to the church to leave Christians without peace. They better avoid going to the church at all than coming to cause fracas and fights,” he continued.

Supporters clash

The skirmish has also been rebuked by the chairperson for the Bishop’s forum, Stephen Maina, who put the blame on the church.

We the clergy are to shoulder to blame because we are aware of the existing political polarisation," Mr Maina stated.

"When we invite political leaders purely from one faction, we obviously rattle the other side and if we invite both, we invite confrontation. Let the fundraisers be done outside the church and where possible not on Sundays,” he added.

On Monday, supporters of MPs Ndindi Nyoro and Maina Kamanda clashed at a press conference as they explained what transpired at Gitui Catholic Church on Sunday.
