Deputy President William Ruto has responded to reports that Jubilee party Secretary General Raphael Tuju is part of opposition leader Raila Odinga’s advisory council.

In a tweet, the Deputy President said that he was surprised that the Kenyan democracy was open to the extent that a Jubilee Secretary General was now the Chief Strategist for the opposition.

So our democracy is so liberal that the SG of the ruling party has become the chief strategist of the opposition!! Maajabu,” read Ruto’s tweet.

Raila’s advisor

DP Ruto’s words came after Nation reported that the Cabinet Secretary without portfolio had unmatched influence in both Jubilee and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) where he is a member of Raila Odinga’s Advisory Council.

The daily stated that Tuju was a key advisor to former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and is integral in coordinating development projects in the Nyanza region.

The report further said that CS Tuju is also a strategist in the 2022 succession race, something he has been accused of, on several occasions by Deputy President William Ruto’s allies.

Tuju responds

In his defense, Raphael Tuju said there was nothing wrong with his close working relationship with the opposition which has caused jitters in Jubilee.

He also maintained that he was not keen on vying for any political seat.

Inclusion does not mean the exclusion of some people. There is enough space for all of us in this country. And anybody trying to say that because there is the inclusion of Luos, Kalenjins are going to be marginalized is fear-mongering. It is our collective responsibility to fix the problem we have caused,” said Tuju.
