2 Nairobi County officials arrested hours after Sonko assumes office

Sonko vowed to crack down on cartels at City Hall

A day after his swearing in, governor Sonko’s office in collaboration with EACC officials have pounced on top Nairobi County officials.

The EACC has arrested Nairobi County Executive Committee finance Officers Gregory Mwakanongo and Luka Gatimu a day after Governor Sonko took office.

P Live could not immediately establish why the officials have been apprehended.

On Monday, when he spoke during the swearing in ceremony held in Nairobi’s Uhuru Park, governor Sonko vowed to move with speed to tackle cartels that may have been evading tax in collaboration with some staff at the city hall.

Mr Sonko alluded that the cartels have denied the city government revenue by backing off from paying the required taxes, a move he says has out the development of the county on hold.

“We are going to seal all loopholes to suffocate cartels stealing our revenue, traders will no longer suffer under people mandated to protect them,” Sonko told a crowd at Uhuru Park which had come to witness the change of guard in the city.
