Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has sparked confusion among Jubilee leaders after announcing that he only supported President Uhuru Kenyatta’s re-election but not his party.

Speaking on Tuesday, Mutua claimed Maendeleo Chap Chap was an independent party and neither supported Jubilee or NASA.

The Machakos governor highlighted that Jubilee had candidates competing against his party in his own backyard.

“Thus it is impossible to support a competing party. I only want to work with leaders with whom we share common ideals… We as a party [MCC] have agreed to support President Uhuru’s bid for a second term, but we are neither in the Jubilee nor NASA coalitions. We are independent,” the Governor affirmed.
