Former comedian Walter Mong'are offered plum government job after Uhuru’s tour of Kisii

Mong'are was however quick to note that he was not ‘defecting’ to Jubilee since he was not seeking an elective seat.

During his recent tour across the Kisii and Nyamira counties, president Uhuru asked the locals to “give” him Mong’are and let him be the main point man to help the youth access jobs and identify their problems.

"Sasa nataka huyu kijana Nyambane mimi mnipatie. Sasa mambo ya entertainment amewacha, akuje aungane na mimi kwa serikali tufanye mambo ya kuwatafutia kazi. Mkiwa na maneno, mkiwa na shida mnamtafuta, anakuja mnamwongelesha anakuja kunipasha habari."

This loosely translates to (Give me this young man guy Nyambane. Let him  now leave the entertainment business. He will now be working with me and I will be sending him to you tell him about your problems and you will send him to me).

Checkered career

Mong'are made his name in the early 2000's with the popular Redykulass crew where they satirically poked fun at prominent politicians of their day, and sometimes even creating dead-on impersonations of presidents and MP’s, alongside John “KJ” Kiarie and Tony Njuguna.

He later created another comedian popularly known as Nyambane on radio at Kiss Fm.

Mong'are also briefly worked under James Ongwae, the Kisii County Governor before coming to work in Nairobi County under Kidero.
