A thug who terrorized residents of Nairobi between 2000 and 2005 has been nominated to vie for a political seat in the upcoming General Election.

Jeff Ngereza, a reformed thief, was given an ODM ticket during the primaries to contest for the Mlango Kubwa MCA seat.

Ngereza abandoned his crime life in 2007 when he joined the campaign trail of Bishop Margret Wanjiru. He was also part of Mathare MP Stephen Kariuki’s campaigns.

“I was involved in crime in the past, but after engaging in politics, campaigning for Margaret Wanjiru in 2006/07 and also for his son in 2013,” he said.

Speaking to a local daily, a resident divulged:“Ngereza was a notorious thug who shunned crime before 2006 after former Starehe MP Margaret Wanjiru transformed him and absorbed him in his campaigns".

The former thug has since been involved in development projects in the area and the locals acknowledge that he is aware of their plight.
